It is the news we have been talking about for months...the casts are coming off for good!!!!! Tomorrow is a very important day because Santino will get his last set of casts off and will be fitted for braces. Our appointments are at 9 and 10am, and we will actually go home with braces on his feet. The braces will have a bar between them to keep his feet in the correct position, and he will be wearing them 24 hours a day with the exception of bath time. I am not sure how long he will wear them for, but am hoping to get more answers tomorrow. I plan to post pictures of the progress throughout the whole casting process later this week when I get the final picture and organize the photos. I know it will be amazing to see the transformation! One last picture of him in his casts!!! |
In other News...
We have been very busy with all of our usual appointments over the past few weeks. Santino is now receiving OT at home in addition to the OT at PCH. The OT at the hospital primarily works on making his splints each week and she encouraged me to work with AzEIP (Arizona Early Intervention Program) to have an OT come to the home to work on small motor skills.
Physical Therapy Update
Santino is still making great progress with PT. He is getting so strong with his head control, is trying to roll over, and lifts his legs very high for having casts that weigh 1/4 pound each. We put him in a high chair recently and he did very well. Since he needs extra support, his fabulous PT is ordering a special chair for him which will allow him to sit without the possibility of causing damage to muscles, nerves, spine, etc. It is very versatile and will grow with him. It has a tray, elbow support, foot support and an activity bar. For now we are using pool noodles to give him elbow support and foot support. We will not get the chair until September at the earliest because it has to go through the whole insurance process.
Here are a few photos I have posted on Facebook in the past few weeks. For those of you who don’t have Facebook, I am trying to transfer some of what I post to this website. It is so much easier to put a video and pictures on FB than on this site, so I find myself doing that more often now. I will post some videos later in the week, because I have to upload to Youtube first.
Here is an adorable picture of the boys watching TV one morning. Teyo was so proud to sit with his little brother, and Tino was happy and nervous all at the same time. Teyo loves his little brother so much that he sometimes loves him too much if you know what I mean. We laugh because baby Tino will sometimes pretend to sleep when he is around!!
We decided to use one of our timeshare weeks to come up to Scottsdale for a stay-cation. It is great because it is close to all of his doctors and his nurses can come up Monday-Friday to help us out. We are really enjoying the pool and just relaxing. We hope to have a fun-filled week!
